Our Volunteers
Your contribution to our program is invaluable. Our riders sometimes need up to three volunteers
in order for them to ride. With safety as our priority we need to ensure that participants within our
program get the necessary training, knowledge and experience necessary to ensure a safe
environment.
What Do Volunteers Do?

Volunteers aid the riders in mounting horses and help provide support to the riders while doing
exercises, play games, going through obstacle courses, and other riding activities. The volunteers
also give emotional support to the riders for their efforts. Many volunteers assist with tack and
grounds maintenance as well.

Volunteers with equestrian experience or those who want to learn may help to groom and tack
horses, serve as horse leaders, and assist in the training of our horses.

Fund-raising , grant writing, serving on a committee, are some of the ways to volunteer. There are
also many opportunities for those who prefer to volunteer only occasionally as well. Volunteers can
assist at horse shows, special events, or building and repair work at the ranch.

Who Can Volunteer?

Volunteers are the heart and soul of a therapeutic riding program. Anyone at least 13 years old can
volunteer at Hoofed Heroes. Many of our volunteers are disabled, some are elderly, some are
students, others are working people looking to make a difference. No previous experience is
necessary. Our skilled instructors will teach you everything you need to know.

How Do I Get Started Volunteering?

All it takes is a phone call. Call and let us know when you want to start volunteering, or come for a
visit first, if you prefer.

If you are interested in becoming a Hoofed Heroes, the first step is to attend one of our Volunteer
Orientation and Training sessions. There you will learn about the different volunteer opportunities,
participate in hands-on training sessions which will cover the basics of horse care, side walking,
grooming, tacking, some tips on handling, and get a quick tour of the facility. The orientation can
last between 2-3hrs depending on the number of participants.

To start volunteering, or to find out more about how you can help please call our volunteer
coordinator at (573) 201-9287.
